Christy Maygard Memorial Scholarship

Hear the Music Ministries presents this scholarship in memory of Christy Maygard, a talented musician and songwriter who served on the Board of Directors from 2008 to 2010. Christy fought cancer bravely and passed away on Nov 5, 2010.

“We are so privileged to be able to honour the memory of our friend and board member Christy by creating this incredible scholarship in her name. It is an opportunity for us to continue the mission of Hear the Music with emerging musicians by supporting both the musical and spiritual values that were also part of Christy’s heart and life.” Jon Buller

The intended recipient is an emerging Christian artist, pursuing a career in one of these areas: musician, songwriter, or worship leader. The scholarship has a $1000 value. I've learned a lot over the years from just watching the example of the people in the band, how an honest struggle with life is probably the most encouraging testimony because everyone else is struggling too. I was reading your mission statement on the website today, and remembering how much time and effort you guys have put into developing young musicians over the years, and I have to appreciate your willingness to do that. On Saturday night after the worship concert we all jumped in the bus and as we were heading back for the night the kids were jumping and square dancing all over the school bus - windows wide open - letting everybody who would listen know that Jesus rocked. As a youth pastor you kind of always wonder how big events like these are going to translate into the week to week stuff. It seems that perhaps a new spirit of worship has been born in our group. - Dale

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the Worship as Music weekend. On Sunday after church the 10 or so people from my church who attended the seminars had a potluck lunch and discussed what we learned, were encouraged and challenged by, etc. I think a lot of issues were brought to light and we all feel like there are a lot changes we need to make in order to improve the worship of the church. Once again, thanks for the great weekend. - Pam

As someone who has been a member of the band, I can say that "Hear the Music" has had a large impact on my life. It has forced me to become a better musician, stretch my views of worship, and offer God my best. However the best thing that HTM has got going is the sense of community. There is something amazing about seeing a group of people from completely different churches and backgrounds get together to give glory to God. Hear the Music Ministries is responsible for allowing me to grow exponentially in my God given talents.
